NEW! Songwriting Master Class with hit Songwriter John Capek
Through a series of creative exercises and games developed by John Capek, the students in this course will develop skills relating to structure, melody, harmony, and lyrics. Popular songwriting is both an art and a craft. As they collaborate with others in the class to write a series of lyrics, melodies, and songs, students will discuss and analyze how to become more effective in communicating through song.
NEW! Songwriting Lab with hit Songwriter John Capek.
For songwriters, co-writing is an important process that combines the strengths of each participant to create a stronger and more powerful musical statement. Songwriting Lab gives developing songwriters the opportunity to explore the experience of co-writing under the guidance of John Capek. Will collaborators assigned in class, participants will write one song per week based on parameters that will develop and strengthen their interest in entering the professional level. The program involves an orientation session, homework each week, recording opportunities, and a performance in the final week. Whenever possible, John Capek brings in special guests to address key issues with students.

| John Capek: |
John Capek is a composer, songwriter, keyboard player, and arranger. He is on the Board of Directors of the Songwriters Association of Canada and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. His songs have been recorded by popular music icons including: Rod Stewart, Cher, Bonnie Raitt, Diana Ross, Joe Cocker, Heart, and Amanda Marshall, and they have also been included in major Hollywood films. John has conducted songwriting workshops across Canada, the USA, and Europe. He became a faculty member of The Royal Conservatory of Music in 2005.
